A musical app designed to teach children phonics.
The alphabet is usually something children repeat. We wanted to make it something they could play.
The Singing Alphabet turned all 26 letters into a choir of characters. Touch a letter and it sang its phonetic sound. Touch a few and they formed a word, building an original tune as they went. Part literacy toy, part musical instrument, it was designed to make children curious about letters, sounds and what they could create with them.
I helped create, write and direct the project with Anthony Austin, and composed and performed the 26-part harmony that gave every letter its voice with my friend Sam Sutton.
Created at Mother for The Ministry of Letters, the app won a Gold Pencil at the 2013 One Show.
